Phil Soltanoff est le directeur artistique de mad dog, compagnie de théâtre expérimental, en résidence permanente à Five Myles (Brooklin - New York), un théâtre co-fondé avec Hanne Tierney. Il a notamment mis en scène To whom it may concern (1996, présenté au BITEF-Belgrade International Theater Festival), Five movements for people and sounds (1998), The Hour We Knew Nothing of Each Other (d'après Peter Handke, 1999), Strange Attractors (2000), wrench (2002). Les créations de mad dog ont été présentées au Kitchen (NY), au Mass MoCA, au Williamstown Theatre Festival (M.A).
Mad dog a reçu des subventions de la part de The Trust for Mutual Understanding, Newman’s Own, The American Theatre Wing, The Puffin Foundation et The Rockefeller MAP Fund entre autres.
Il a aussi participé à la mise en scène de Hybrid #17 (The Kitchen), Suite for Suits (The Ontological - Hysteric Theatre) et Plan B avec la CIE 111 (Théâtre Garonne - Toulouse ; GREC Festival - Barcelone ; Théâtre de la Cité Internationale - Paris ; Kampnagel - Hamburg ; London International Mime Festival - Londres).
Il a donné des cours à des artistes en résidence (Skidmore College), à des artistes invités au National Theatre Conservatory (Denver Cnter Theatre), au American Conservatory Theatre, au Williamson Theatre Festival, à University of Texas, à Austin et en France au Théâtre Garonne.
Phil Soltanoff continue sa collaboration avec la CIE 111 avec la création de Plus ou moins l’infini.
